This memorial dial was created as a fountain for the rose garden, originally designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, on Columbia’s Lamont campus. In addition to telling the time, the sundial features a noon-mark solar calendar. A beam of light highlights the birthdays of seven departed loved ones of staff members. To further enhance the gentle feeling of this sundial, a small bubbler between the two forms of the dial is designed to quietly activate the surface of the lily pond.
